Sino-American Silicon Products Inc. (SAS) and Premier Energies together set up a solar wafer factory in India with a yearly capacity of 2 GW. The factory was built to cut polysilicon blocks into thin wafers used to make solar cells. SAS brought wafer manufacturing expertise, while Premier Energies contributed large-scale manufacturing capability. SAS planned to acquire a 26% equity in the venture after subscription. The initiative aligned with Indian government policies supporting solar manufacturing. Premier Energies had the ability to produce 8.4 GW of solar cells and 11.1 GW of solar modules, including projects still being built. The partnership aimed to improve India’s solar supply chain and meet local demand.
