India-based Shree Cement Ltd has commissioned a 6.0 MW solar power plant at it’s Roorkee unit in Uttarakhand, which brings the entire solar capacity to 7.0 MW. The firm expressed that the new factory was designed with a capital expenditure of about INR 16 crore (~ $1.92 million) and is set to neutralize about 6,500 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions every year. Shree Cement confirmed that its overall installed solar capacity for all its operations stands at 293.5 MW now. The solar plant, situated near current cement operations, is intended to decrease dependence on grid power and improve energy independence. Shree Cement further stated that the project provides employment within the region and aids regional economic activity in Uttarakhand.
