Germany-based Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH, steelmaking subsidiary of Salzgitter AG, has invited proposals for a 150 MW ground-mounted solar array and a large-scale battery storage system. Interested parties were allowed to register proposals until June 22. The solar capacity was intended to secure the final volume of clean electricity required to complete the company’s initial green steel plans. The projects were part of its SALCOS program to reduce CO2 emissions in steel production. The company aimed to implement a long-term power purchase agreement for the solar array and sought partners for the construction and operation of the battery storage facility at its steel site.
