Reliance Industries Limited, a Mumbai conglomerate with businesses in energy, petrochemicals, and telecom, initiated preparatory activities for its large-scale renewable energy plant in Kutch, Gujarat, after it had previously announced an investment of USD 10 billion in clean energy. Engineering and feasibility studies for the 5,50,000-acre location were over, as told by Reliance Industries, following which land development works were launched across several sections. The firm added that the development work at the site is progressing towards the first phase of solar generation, which will start in the first half of the following financial year. Concurrently, Reliance has commissioned a few solar photovoltaic module manufacturing lines at its Jamnagar plant and is developing a 40 GWh battery production unit to cater to energy storage requirements when generation starts.
