The Rajasthan energy department approved a proposal on May 26 to procure 630 MW of firm and dispatchable renewable energy (FDRE) at INR 5.06 (~ $ 0.056) per unit. The energy was initially auctioned by Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) to Delhi discoms, who later withdrew, after which SECI offered it to other states. Rajasthan accepted the offer, but the power purchase agreement (PPA) is still pending. Rajasthan’s energy minister, Heeralal Nagar, has stated that no PPA will be signed until an internal investigation is completed. Samta Power has raised concerns, stating that solar power with battery storage is available at INR 3.18 (~ $0.035) per unit through e-auctions. Samta Power also said that locking into a 25-year high-tariff contract is risky, as battery storage costs have been consistently declining.
