Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), has reported that households under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana have crossed the 25 lakh rooftop solar installation mark nationwide. According to MNRE, the scheme has enabled residential consumers to access grid-connected rooftop solar systems through a national application portal. Union Minister, Pralhad Joshi said that beneficiary households have experienced reduced electricity bills following rooftop solar commissioning. The ministry stated that subsidies of up to INR 78,000(~ $ 858) have been provided to support installations. Launched in February 2024, the programme has targeted rooftop solar deployment across one crore households by FY 2026–27. As per Ministry of New and Renewable Energy data, cumulative rooftop solar capacity installed under the scheme has reached 7,075.78 MW.
