Odisha is planning to set up around 1 GW of floating solar power on its reservoirs. A state-formed committee has met three times to coordinate the process. It finalized maps for Hirakud, Rengali, and Upper Indravati, and checked possible sites at Upper Kolab and Balimela. The state also hired experts to study 51 other reservoirs. Odisha aims to build 10 GW of clean energy by 2030, with 7.5 GW from solar. iFOREST, using data from the National Institute of Solar Energy (NISE), said Odisha can generate up to 33.5 GW of floating solar using 670 sq km of water. Officials said these projects save land, help manage water and improve solar panel performance.
