Sri Potti Sriramulu (SPSR) district administration in Nellore has selected six villages under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The identified villages are Leguntapadu, Bitragunta, Mahimaluru, Kalivelapalem, Manubolu and Kakupalli, located across various Assembly segments. District Collector Himanshu Shukla has stated that the scheme is intended to generate green energy in rural areas. The rural solar initiative is designed to reduce dependence on the conventional power grid. The implementation plan includes the installation of rooftop solar systems in households across the six villages. Solar power will also be extended to public utilities such as water supply systems, street lighting and community halls. Agricultural pumpsets are expected to operate using electricity generated from solar panel arrays. The best-performing village will receive a INR 1 crore incentive from the Union government and will be designated as a model solar village.
