The Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD) has partnered with NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam(NVVN) to install rooftop solar panels on 989 civic buildings under the RESCO(Renewable Energy Service Company) model. NVVN will manage installation, operation, and maintenance, with no upfront cost to MCD, which will repay through a fixed tariff under a power purchase agreement. The estimated capacity is between 10 and 15 megawatts, subject to an investment-grade energy audit. Tariffs are expected to range from INR 4.25(~ $0.051) to INR 4.92(~ $0.059)per kWh, making the plan more viable than earlier IPGCL bids. MCD currently has 13.25 MWp from 574 solar plants, and plans to utilise NVVN’s spare capacity from Delhi Police rooftops to fast-track deployment. The proposal is listed for approval in Thursday’s MCD House meeting.
