Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL), an India-based power distribution utility, has clarified that it has not imposed capacity restrictions under PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana. The utility has stated that rooftop solar approvals are granted based on sanctioned load and actual electricity consumption. Higher capacity requests are examined through technical scrutiny and site inspection before approvals are issued. An automated approval system has linked permissible solar capacity to sanctioned load and past consumption data. MSEDCL has indicated that the scheme is intended primarily for domestic consumers across Maharashtra. The scheme provides subsidies of 30,000 for 1 kW, 60,000 for 2 kW and 78,000 till 3 kW installations. Maharashtra has recorded 4.53 lakh rooftop systems with 1,722 MW combined capacity. Under the scheme, subsidy disbursement has reached INR 3,162 crore so far.
