The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, an India-based renewable energy authority, has recently held a stakeholder consultation in India. The consultation has examined the draft Floating PV potential assessment report and policy framework prepared for India. The National Institute of Solar Energy has prepared the draft potential assessment report, while IIT Roorkee has prepared the draft Floating PV policy framework for structured project execution. Only around 700 MW of Floating PV projects has been commissioned in India so far. This limited deployment has been linked to gaps in site data and execution frameworks. MNRE has requested States and UTs to conduct internal consultations with Water Resources, Irrigation and other concerned departments. Discussions have included plug and pay models and allotment of water bodies with approvals. Further consultations will be undertaken with MoEFCC, Wetland Authority and National Dam Safety Authority.
