India's state-owned power producer, Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (MAHAGENCO) is set to add 1.07 GW solar capacity. The projects aim to reduce conventional energy use and support farmers’ daytime irrigation. Over 3 lakh farmers across the state are expected to benefit. MAHAGENCO is India’s second-largest state-run power producer with 13.88 GW installed capacity. The projects fall under Maharashtra’s Solar Agriculture Feeder Scheme 2.0. The scheme is designed to lower electricity costs for agricultural consumers. By 2025, about 30% of agricultural feeders are planned for solarization. Solar plants from 0.5MW to 25MW will be built near distribution substations. A joint committee is formed to monitor progress. MAHAGENCO and the Global Energy Alliance will develop a central dashboard for project tracking. This development follows MAHAGENCO's broader solar expansion efforts, including its recent award of a 100 MW project to KPI.
