Kondareddypally village in Telangana’s Nagarkurnool district became South India’s first fully solar-powered village and India’s second in September 2025. Implemented under the state’s Green Energy Mission, the INR 10.53 crore (~$ 1.17 million) project was executed by Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation Ltd with funding from central government subsidies and CSR support from Premier Energies. The village installed 1.5 MW of rooftop solar panels to power 514 homes and 11 public buildings, removing the need for electricity bills. Each home produced about 360 units of power a month, and the extra electricity sold to the grid at INR 5.25 per unit brought villagers nearly ₹5 lakh in September. Completed within six months following an energy survey, the project showcased effective community involvement in planning, execution, and maintenance.
