The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy is implementing the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana (PMSG: MBY) to equip one crore residential households with rooftop solar by FY 2026-27. PMSG: MBY scheme is supported by an outlay of INR 75,021 crore ($8.26 million). The scheme is intended to enable each enrolled household to generate up to 300 kWh of free or low-cost electricity monthly, through centrally assisted rooftop solar systems. As of 3 December 2025, 14,365 rooftop solar systems had been installed in Karnataka, representing 9.38% of total applications received under the scheme in the state, as per the ministry. To improve the performance, the MNRE has been supporting Karnataka with training and capacity building for technicians, vendors and DISCOM staff, along with targeted consumer awareness activities aimed at boosting participation. Under these efforts, 12,138 participants have been trained as PV installers, 2,746 as solar entrepreneurs and 1,840 DISCOM employees under the scheme in Karnataka.
