India's solar installation capacity has grown 4,000% in the last ten years, from approximately 2 GW back in 2014 to almost 90 GW as of mid-2025, based on the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy. Union Minister Piyush Goyal at the 11th India Energy Storage Week 2025 said that cumulative renewable capacity stood at 227 GW. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy also registered a 38-fold increase in solar module production and a 21-fold increase in photovoltaic cell production during this time. Piyush Goyal also stressed battery and pumped hydro storage, supply chain reliability, and end-to-end value chain development, ranging from raw material to manufacturing and recycling. Rooftop and agricultural solar programmes were also referred to as the important drivers that enable decentralized generation and grid integration.
