India’s Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, has stated that the sector is entering an integration-driven phase aligning growth with grid strength, storage needs and market reforms. Installed renewable capacity was 197 GW by September 2025, rising sharply from 35 GW in 2014. MNRE has reported that REIAs held 43,942 MW of awarded capacity awaiting PSA execution, while 24,928 MW of PSAs were signed since April 2023. The ministry has directed REIAs to assess feasibility using configuration, tariff and connectivity criteria before considering selective cancellations. MNRE additionally stressed procurement movement toward Solar+Storage, peak-supply and FDRE-based tenders. Such procurement changes are intended to meet India’s emerging system requirements effectively. A INR 2.4 lakh crore (~ $26.4 billion) transmission-expansion programme is projected to open renewable corridors and ease congestion.
