As of July 2025, 4.9 GW residential rooftop solar capacity have been commissioned under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Yojana (PMSGY), according to a report by IEEFA and JMK Research & Analytics. According to the report, 57.9 lakh applications were made, a four-fold hike compared to March 2024. Despite all this growth, just 13.1 % of the one-crore installation goal has been realized. It further stated that 14.1 % of the disbursed INR 65,700 crore (~ $ 7.5 billion) in subsidy was granted till July 2025. The installed capacity has been the highest in Gujarat at 1,491 MW, followed by Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, and Rajasthan with 77.2 % of the total capacity. The report noted that administrative setbacks and financial setbacks have constrained the implementation rate, and concerns were raised in achieving the 30 GW goal in FY 2027.
