Mercom India, an India-based clean energy research firm, has reported that India has installed 36.6 GW PV capacity in 2025, rising 43% from 25.6 GW installed in 2024. The Mercom India report has stated that annual PV installations have crossed 30 GW for the first time, with large-scale projects accounting for about 81% of additions. Rooftop PV installations have contributed over 19% of additions, while 29.5 GW of large-scale capacity has been installed, marking a 31% increase from 22.5 GW in 2024. According to the Mercom India analysis, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra have led large-scale solar installations with shares of 34%, 28% and 15%, while India has added 57 GW of new power capacity in 2025 with PV contributing 68%.
