Solar panel users in Gujarat are replacing their PV systems much earlier than expected. Over 50 MW of capacity has been swapped out within just 8 to 12 years, far short of the promised 25-year lifespan. Micro-cracks, corrosion, soldering defects, and maintenance issues have significantly reduced energy generation—down to as low as 8% in some cases, compared to the expected 15%. The trend has particularly affected early adopters, prompting solar firms across the state to handle increasing volumes of replacement requests.
Gujarat solar panel defects trigger 50 MW in early replacements
Cracks, corrosion, and poor build quality have caused over 50 MW of solar panels in Gujarat to be replaced just 8–12 years after installation.
