The Uttar Pradesh government has approved the state’s first floating solar power project in Lalitpur district, with Gas Authority of India Ltd.  According to the Uttar Pradesh energy department, Gas Authority of India Ltd(GAIL) has planned an investment of INR 257 crore (~ $31 million)for the project. The floating solar plant has been approved with an installed capacity of 49 MW and was sanctioned for development at the Maudaha dam reservoir in Lalitpur. Gas Authority of India Ltd has intended to use the electricity generated as captive power for its gas processing operations in the region. As per Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Development Agency, a Lucknow-based renewable nodal agency, the project was expected to become operational within 18 months, initiating reservoir-based solar deployment while reducing land-use pressure in the state.
