Delhi’s rooftop solar adoption has gained momentum under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, with over 17,000 systems installed as of September 2025. The initiative, jointly supported by the Delhi government and power discoms, has added 228 MW to the city’s grid. BSES Rajdhani and BSES Yamuna Power have energised 11,100 rooftop units, while Tata Power Delhi Distribution has crossed 6,300 installations, achieving a combined 100 MW in its areas. Consumers installing up to 3 kW systems receive INR 1.08 lakh (≈ $1,300) in subsidies from the Centre and state. The scheme also offers a INR 900 (≈ $11) monthly incentive for five years. Discoms have conducted outreach through solar camps, roadshows, and community events, enabling households to cut electricity costs and support Delhi’s clean energy transition.
