Kolkata-based Coal India Ltd (CIL), a government-owned coal producer, signed an MoU with UP Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL) in Lucknow. The non-binding agreement aims to set up a 500 MW solar project in Uttar Pradesh. The agreement also includes possible future collaborations. In April, CIL also signed a pact with Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC). They plan to set up a power plant in Jharkhand with an investment of INR 16,500 crore (~$1.95 billion). Ultra-supercritical plants work at higher steam heat and pressure levels. This leads to better efficiency and fewer emissions. CIL aiming for 875 million tons of production and 900 million tons of offtake in 2025-26.
