The Central Electricity Authority has mandated that developers must install Automatic Weather Stations(AWS) at all wind and solar power plants with a capacity of 50 MW or more. As per the authority's notification, the requirement aims to improve forecasting accuracy, enhance generation predictability, and reduce penalties under the Deviation Settlement Mechanism. The Central Electricity Authority stated that inaccurate weather forecasts have frequently led to financial losses. According to the authority, one weather station must be installed per plant and positioned in areas that represent actual site conditions. The stations must measure parameters such as wind speed and rainfall, andtransmit data digitally to the plant's Data Acquisition System. The Central Electricity Authority has also directed all renewable energy implementing agencies to include this requirement in future bid documents.
