Andhra Pradesh Eastern Power Distribution Company Limited (APEPDCL) enabled landowners in Andhra Pradesh to use vacant plots for ground-mounted solar units under the Virtual Mode category. The model had extended earlier rooftop efforts and allowed applicants, including apartment residents, to install systems at alternate locations while receiving benefits virtually. CREDAI Visakhapatnam said underutilised urban plots had remained unsold and noted that small solar units had offered additional income and lowered encroachment risks. APEPDCL stated that subsidies had been available for eligible applicants. Meteorologists said Visakhapatnam had suitable sunshine for rooftop and ground-mounted systems. Stakeholders urged wider State support due to the large number of privately owned vacant plots.
