US-based I Squared Capital, through its renewable’s platform Cube Green Energy, has signed an agreement to acquire a controlling stake in SUNfarming, a German photovoltaic developer specializing in Agri-PV projects. The agreement includes a commitment to invest over €500 million (~$5.38 billion) by 2028 to expand SUNfarming’s Agri-PV pipeline. This acquisition aligns with Germany’s goals to increase PV capacity to 215 GW by 2030 while supporting sustainable agricultural practices. The deal, pending regulatory approvals, is expected to close by Q1 2025. SUNfarming’s founders will retain a minority stake and continue in their current roles.
