The Himachal Pradesh government, under Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, is advancing solar energy initiatives with tenders for seven projects totaling 72 MW currently under evaluation, and allotments expected soon. Surveys are underway for eight additional projects totaling 325 MW. The 32 MW Pekhubela Solar Power Project in Una district has generated 34.19 million units of electricity since April 2024, earning INR 10.16 crore (~$1.18million). A 5 MW project in Bhanjal became operational in November 2024, while a 10 MW project in Aghlaur is nearing completion. The state plans to establish 200 Green Panchayats with 200 kW solar plants by 2026, alongside rooftop solar and water heating systems in schools and ashrams, as part of its goal to become India’s first Green Energy State.
