Google has unveiled two new solar PPA in Japan, marking its first foray into the country’s renewable energy market. Partnering with Itochu’s Clean Energy Connect and Shizen Energy, Google plans to contribute 60 MW of additional solar energy capacity to Japan’s grid, supporting both its data centers. The agreement with Clean Energy Connect, an affiliate of Itochu Corporation, will see the construction of approximately 800 small-scale solar plants, generating 40 MW of clean energy. Meanwhile, the partnership with Shizen Energy focuses on a 20 MW utility-scale solar project near Google’s data center in Inzai City, Chiba prefecture. These initiatives underscore Google’s commitment to invest nearly $690 million into sustainable infrastructure in Japan over the next four years.
