Renew Home, a merger of Google’s Nest Renew service and OhmConnect, has emerged as North America’s largest residential virtual power plant (VPP). With close to 3 GW of energy control already, it aims to scale up to 50 GW by 2030, aligning with DOE’s VPP growth projections. Backed by a $100M investment from Sidewalk Infrastructure Partners, Renew Home enables collective energy reduction in households across the country. Leveraging Google Home APIs and various home devices, it collaborates with over 100 utilities for demand response and VPP programs. Additionally, it integrates with various other devices and appliances such as LG, Honeywell, SunPower, and Sense. Partnering with industry leader Rheem, Renew Home aims to redefine residential energy management, promoting both cost savings and energy efficiency.
