Genesis, Newzealand based power supplier has acquired the 114 MW solar project in the Eastern Bay of Plenty from Auckland-based developer Helios Energy, advancing its goal of 500 MW of grid-scale solar by FY28. Located on a 207-hectare site near Edgecumbe, the project will feature around 220,000 solar panels, expected to generate 230 GWh of electricity annually, enough to power 30,000 homes. Set to begin power generation in 2027, this project supports Genesis’ Gen35 strategy, aiming for 95% baseload renewable energy by 2035, and aligns with New Zealand’s net-zero carbon target by 2050.
