Fraunhofer ISE recognizes Trina Solar i-TOPCon’s role in commercializing TOPCon 

Professor Stefan W. Glunz of Fraunhofer ISE highlighted the pivotal role of Trina Solar’s i-TOPCon in the commercialization of TOPCon at the 700W+ i-TOPCon module conference in December 2023. Commending i-TOPCon’s contribution to TOPCon technology’s development, Glunz said he expects TOPCon’s continued use in the next-gen products alongside heterojunction cells. i-TOPCon, an evolution of TOPCon, has achieved an industrial efficiency of over 25%, and is set to further advance with passivating front contact cell technology and tandem technology. Yifeng Chen, Trina Solar’s technical leader, projected tandem technology efficiency based on i-TOPCon bottom cells to surpass 30%, propelling the industry into a 700W+ era.
