UAE-headquartered EWEC (Emirates Water and Electricity Company) has begun construction on the 1.5 GW Al Ajban Solar PV project in Abu Dhabi, the emirate’s third utility-scale solar plant. The EDF-led consortium, which includes KOWEPO and Masdar, secured the project with a 30-year PPA at a competitive rate of 1.413 cents/kWh. Spanning 20 sq. km and employing over three million bifacial PV modules with single-axis trackers, the plant will deliver renewable energy by Q3 2026. The project, backed by top-tier banks.
