UAE-based Emirates Water and Electricity Company (EWEC) has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the 1,500 MW (AC) Zarraf Solar PV IPP project in Abu Dhabi’s Al Dhafra region. This is EWEC’s fifth utility-scale solar project, aligned with its goal to increase Abu Dhabi’s solar capacity to 10 GW (AC) by 2030. The Expression of Interest (EOI) stage, initiated in October 2024, saw 20 submissions, with 16 qualifying for the RFP stage. Responses to the RFP are due by Q2 2025. The selected developer or consortium will hold up to 40% ownership, with the remaining equity retained by the Abu Dhabi Government. By 2035, EWEC projects 18 GW of solar PV capacity to be operational, meeting 60% of the emirate’s electricity demand with renewable energy.
