ENGIE Energy Access, Africa’s leading PAYGO and mini-grid solutions provider, has commenced constructing 15 solar mini-grids in Zambia's Eastern Province. This initiative is part of the IAEREP programme funded by the European Development Fund and the EU. The company aims to operate 60 mini-grids across five provinces, supporting SDG 7 by providing clean energy to 40,000 rural residents. MySol Grid Zambia, a unit of ENGIE, is responsible for the construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance. The first sites, including Lusinde and Kandongwa, are set to be operational by the end of 2024. A USD 7.5 million debt facility from FEI will fund these projects, marking a significant step in the mini-grid sector.
