Spain based Zelestra has started construction of the 242 MW(DC) Babilonia solar project in Arequipa, Peru. Babilonia is part of the nearly 700 MW (DC) La Joya complex which also includes the 300 MW San Martín plant and a 125 MW project in development. The project is backed by a long-term PPA with Celepsa, a Grupo UNACEM company. Total of 394,000 bifacial modules were planned to set for installation at the site. Full commercial operations are anticipated in the first half of 2027 and the construction phase is expected to support more than 500 local jobs. At the full operation the facility is expected to generate enough electricity to power around 350,000 homes.Earlier this year, Zelestra secured a Santander-backed equity bond to support a 500 MW portfolio, reinforcing its financing pipeline ahead of new project rollouts.
