Volkswagen Group Africa, a South Africa-based automotive manufacturer, has completed the second phase of its Kariega solar carport project. The first phase was completed in 2024 and delivered 3.1 MWp through 5,712 panels. The second phase has added 2.1 MWp with 3,582 panels rated at 585 W. Volkswagen Group Africa said the new phase required R35 m(~ $ 2.05 million), bringing total project investment to R90 m(~ $5.27 million) and lifting combined output above 7,000 MWh yearly. The company has now installed more than 9,200 panels across employee parking and service areas, and the completed system is providing 5.2 MWp to support operations at the Kariega plant.
