The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced a $1 billion package to help rebuild Yemen’s long-damaged electricity sector. The announcement was made during the Yemen National Energy Conference 2025 and was reaffirmed by UAE Ambassador Mohamed Hamad Al Zaabi. The programme will be executed by Global South Utilities (GSU), which includes solar, wind, and conventional power plants. GSU recently inaugurated a 53 MW solar project in Shabwah and is doubling capacity at an Aden solar PV plant. The overall effort is designed to restore reliable power in areas where many receive fewer than four hours of electricity daily. European analysts have stated that this announcement could open new avenues for European renewable-energy firms and grid partners. This latest intervention enhances broader attempts to ensure secure Red Sea passages and stabilised supply chains.
