Tunisia approved new renewable energy projects following a meeting of the High Commission for Private Electricity Generation chaired by Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri, with decisions primarily centred on solar development. The commission cleared two 100 MW solar photovoltaic projects in Tataouine and Gabès under an 800 MW solar tender and endorsed a 350 MW solar project in Bazma incorporating battery storage. These solar projects were expected to save around 110,000 tons of oil equivalent of natural gas annually, reduce production costs by about 107 million dinars per year, and avoid nearly 253,000 tons of CO₂ equivalent each year. The meeting also reviewed recent implementation progress, including the commissioning of a 100 MW solar plant in El Metbasta in December 2025 and the start of commissioning tests for 50 MW solar plants in Mezzouna and Tozeur, with commercial operation expected before year-end. In parallel, the commission approved a 77.25 MW wind project in Zaghouan and cleared additional wind tenders scheduled for the 2026–2027 period across multiple region.
