SolarPower Europe, a Brussels-based solar trade association, has reported a contraction in EU solar growth. According to the analysis, the EU has installed 65.1 GW of new solar PV in 2025, down 0.7% and despite this decline, cumulative EU solar capacity has reached approximately 406 GW in 2025. As per the report, the most-likely scenario has projected total EU solar capacity will reach 718 GW by 2030. SolarPower Europe has partly linked the slowdown to residential solar, where capacity share has dropped to 14%. The report has highlighted that solar farms now account for more than 50% of installed capacity but face profitability pressures. SolarPower Europe has noted that Germany and Spain have retained the leading positions, while France has surpassed Italy to rank third. The analysis has also reported that Romania and Bulgaria have entered the top ten, with Netherlands dropping to eighth position. Recently, SolarPower Europe has hosted its first EU flexibility strategy day.
EU meets 2025 solar target as market slowdown emerges
In 2025, the EU reached 406 GW of installed solar capacity, meeting its target, but SolarPower Europe has warned that slower growth risks missing the 750 GW 2030 goal.
