China based Shandong Electric Power Construction Corporation No. 3 (Sepco3) has announced that the work has begun on the 1.5 GW Khazna Solar PV Project in Abu Dhabi. The project is in the Sweihan area and includes a 1.807 GW DC photovoltaic plant, a 33 kV/400 kV substation, a 400 kV ESF switchyard and 25 km of 33 kV overhead power lines. The scope of work includes 9.6 million cu m of earthwork, installation of 369,000 PV support piles and deployment of 2.8 million PV modules. Once completed and put into operation, the project is expected to supply electricity to about 160,000 households in the UAE and reduce carbon emissions by more than 2.4 million tons annually.
