Oslo headquartered Scatec ASA has reached Commercial Operations Date for the first phase of its 1.1 GW Obelisk solar and 100 MW / 200 MWh battery project in Egypt. The first phase includes 561 MW of solar capacity and the full battery system, while second 564 MW solar phase remains under construction and is expected online in summer 2026. Once fully operational, the project is set to become Africa’s largest hybrid solar and battery installation with generating over 3,000 GWh annually and abating more than 1.2 million tonnes of CO2e each year. Power will be supplied to the Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company under a 25 year USD-denominated PPA. Scatec holds a 60 % economic interest and is providing EPC, asset management and O&M services.
