Saudi Arabia will invest $2 billion to build two solar farms in Turkey with a total capacity of 2 GW, according to Turkey’s energy minister. The agreement was signed during President Tayyip Erdogan’s visit to Riyadh between Alparslan Bayraktar and Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman. Saudi companies will construct one solar plant in Sivas province and another in Karaman province in the first phase. The projects were planned to be fully financed through external funding, with credit support from international financial institutions. The initial solar projects were expected to meet the electricity needs of about 2.1 million households, while total planned Saudi-built solar and wind capacity in Turkey was set to reach 5 GW.
