Release, a company under Scatec ASA, has signed a 7-year leasing agreement with Tshukudu Metals Botswana. Tshukudu Metals Botswana is a wholly owned subsidiary of Sandfire Resources headquartered in Australia. The agreement covers the development of a 21 MW solar power plant at the Motheo Copper Operations near Ghanzi in Botswana. Once operational the plant is expected to supply about 30% of Motheo’s power demand and reduce emissions at the copper operation, in line with Sandfire’s decarbonisation plans. The agreement introduces Release’s lease-to-own model in Botswana offering solar power without upfront capital investment. Project implementation will now commence, with operations scheduled for the end of 2026. Prior to this agreement, the company had secured a 120 MW solar power purchase agreement in Tunisia, expanding its regional portfolio.
