Finland based Nordi Oy is planning a solar power plant and energy storage facility near the former Holstinharju landfill area in Kemi. The project is in the former waste station area and its vicinity. The planned solar power plant has an estimated output of about 50 MW and annual production of around 53 GWh which is equivalent to the electricity consumption of approximately 2,700 single-family homes. The total investment value is about €40 million (~ $47.69 million). Nordi has leased the land from the city of Kemi and applied for an exemption with a construction permit planned for spring 2026. The project is expected to cover about 65 hectares and will be connected to the Fingrid main grid. Alongside energy storage facility is planned with the solar plant to store electricity during high production and supply power during high demand. The production start date depends on project progress, with earliest operation estimated for summer 2028.
