Japanese automobile manufacturer, Nissan has presented a solar-powered Ariya concept developed by engineering teams in Dubai and Barcelona and unveiled on January 26. The vehicle integrated 3.8 m² of photovoltaic panels across the hood, roof and tailgate to generate DC power for onboard systems. Testing showed the system delivered additional daily driving range under varying solar conditions in cities including Barcelona, London, New Delhi and Dubai. The solar input reduced charging frequency and supplemented energy use during driving and long-distance travel. Annual charging visits declined in simulated commuter use cases. The concept also reflected Nissan’s longer-term work on integrated solar charging as part of its stated carbon neutrality objective across product life cycles and operations by 2050.
