NewPower Energy acquired a 30 MW solar project near Cambridge from Lightyears Solar. The fully consented project was scheduled to begin construction in early 2026. Infratec was appointed to build the farm using more than 45,000 tracking solar panels. The companies stated they would work with the local community and mana whenua during delivery. The site was designed to allow livestock grazing alongside the infrastructure and was expected to be commissioned by early 2027. The project expanded NewPower Energy’s generation portfolio, which included 4.5 MW in Naumai, two Waikato farms, the 33 MW Taiohi project under commissioning and the 12 MW Rangimārie project under construction. The 35 MWh Rotohiko BESS near Huntly also formed part of its assets supporting national renewable energy targets.
