Nama Power and Water Procurement (PWP) signed an agreement with Masdar, Al Khadra Partners, and Korea Midland Power (KOMIPO). OQ Alternative Energy also joined the consortium for Oman’s first utility-scale solar and battery storage project. The Ibri III Solar Independent Power Project included a 500 MW photovoltaic plant and a 100 MWh battery energy storage system. The project had an investment of about OMR 115 million ($299 million) and covered nearly 10 million square meters. The power purchase agreement was signed in Muscat in the presence of Oman’s Energy Minister, Salim bin Nasser Al Aufi. The plant was expected to supply power to about 33,000 homes, add 4 percent to the electricity mix, and cut around 505,000 tons of carbon dioxide each year.
