Abu Dhabi–headquartered Masdar, a global renewable power developer, has signed a power purchase agreement with Tenaga Nasional Berhad to develop a 200 MW floating solar photovoltaic project at Chereh Dam. The agreement marked Masdar’s first utility-scale renewable project in Malaysia and secured offtake for electricity generation at the site. The project was subsequently awarded under Malaysia’s Large Scale Solar Cycle 5+ program in the floating solar category. Development is being undertaken by a Masdar-led consortium together with Kuala Lumpur–based Citaglobal Berhad, an infrastructure and energy company, and Tiza Global, a local energy developer. According to Masdar, the project achieved the lowest floating solar tariff and will deliver over 300 MWp capacity, supplying electricity to more than 100,000 homes.
