Ireland based Mannok Cement Ltd has submitted plans for a ground-mounted solar PV power plant on about 100 acres west of its Ballyconnell headquarters in north Cavan. The proposal covers around 50 small rectangular fields and includes steel-mounted PV panels, underground cable, a temporary construction compound and three transformer stations. The plans also include gravel access tracks, widened field entrances, CCTV poles and cameras, entrance gates and perimeter fencing. Cavan County Council planning officials are considering an application for a 40-year operating licence. Consultants estimated the development could reduce Mannok’s carbon emissions by more than 3,700 t in the first year of operation. The cement plant was previously owned by Derrylin-based businessman Sean Quinn.
