Egypt-based Kemet and GCL Group’s Suzhou Weicheng have signed a cooperation agreement to develop an integrated solar PV cell and module manufacturing complex. The project spans 280,000 sq m with a planned capacity of 5 GW and an investment cost of $500 million. The agreement aims to enhance local manufacturing, knowledge transfer, capacity building and technology development. Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Esmat, stated that the ministry supported such partnerships and noted the role of the private sector in renewable energy projects under Egypt’s National Energy Strategy, which targets more than 42% renewables by 2030 and 65% by 2040.
