A multinational joint venture had broken ground on a $ 210 million integrated solar manufacturing complex in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone. The Atum Solar Complex was located on a 204,000 sq m site in the TEDA Industrial Zone. The facility included two factories with annual capacities of 2 GW of solar cells and 2 GW of solar modules. The joint venture was led by JA Solar, with Global South Utilities, Infinity Capital, and AH for Industrial Management and Consulting. The module facility was planned to supply Egypt and regional markets, while the cell plant was dedicated to US exports. The project was expected to create around 840 jobs and commence operations within three years.
